Our popular webinar series will continue with topics requested by the audience. New sessions will be arranged between March and May 2017. These sessions focus on sampling in minerals processing, covering both theory and practical approach, including best practices and process insight.
Outotec organized a five-part webinar series on improving flotation performance in 2016, which attracted more than one thousand registrants. Based on the positive feedback and requests from participants, we are now presenting the second season of flotation webinars, concentrating on sampling. The webinar series has been created to support professional knowledge development and offer an information forum for flotation experts. The presenters are skilled professionals, who can offer process insight and practical advice, backed by in-depth experience from sites around the world. We also encourage the participants to ask questions and share their opinions during the sessions.
The webinar series is available both in English and Spanish. Webinars are arranged on the BrightTALK platform (live and on-demand). The topics of the new webinar series are:
Introduction to minerals processing sampling
The first webinar in the new series will introduce the theory of industrial sampling with a focus on basic definitions and the aims and needs for it. These will be discussed through the concepts of ideal sampling and sampling dimensions as well as the sample size and number of increments. The webinar will cover the topics of sampling strategies and the typical issues to consider in a sampling process. A better understanding of the theory will increase the participant's ability to design meaningful experiments to improve the profitability of the plant.
Presenter: Kari Heiskanen, Prof. emer., Technology Director
English presentation held on March 16, 2017
Spanish presentation held on March 23, 2017
From sampling to simulation of flotation process
After introducing the theory and fundamentals behind sampling, this webinar will focus on sampling procedures, mass balancing and simulation of a flotation bank. It is important to understand the performance of a bank and the individual cells. Overlooking individual cells may result in inaccurate and therefore misleading conclusions. To overcome this issue, the webinar aims to explain:
- Manual sampling procedures
- Combining results with the HSC simulation tool
- Optimizing the flotation bank in order to improve plant output
Presenter: Rodrigo Grau, D.Sc., Principal Metallurgist Flotation
English presentation held on April 6, 2017
Spanish presentation held on April 11, 2017
Process sampling practices
This webinar will focus on the importance of a sampling system for an analyzer in a concentrator plant. Sample pipe routing and installation are more demanding than installation of process piping, e.g. water or sewer piping. The importance of designing and installing a sampling system is often overlooked causing a lack of representative samples. This results in poor process control and can decrease plant profitability. The webinar discusses how to overcome the above issues.
Presenters: Janne Loimi, M.Sc., Application Specialist Slurry Sampling (English) and Tano Balbin, Gerente Técnico Automation & Sampling Systems (Spanish)
English presentation held on April 27, 2017
Spanish presentation held on May 4, 2017
