Welcome summer trainees!

I’m Charlotta Beijar, a Talent and Development Manager of Market Area Europe, located in Espoo, Finland. Our team supports employees and managers in Europe, in a wide range of topics from recruiting and onboarding to competence development programs. What I most love about my work, is the connection to people and having the opportunity to support growth and development of others. Today, I want to share our experience with preparing and planning so that everything is set when we welcome our summer trainees 2021 here in Finland.

This year, we received thousands of applications to our summer trainee positions in Finland. While we are humbled that so many saw us as a potential employer for this important career step, it at the same time sadly means we had to disappoint many excellent applicants. We know that behind every well written application letter and CV there is an ambitious person, who would have been worthy of becoming chosen. To show our gratitude for the number of received applications, we decided this year to donate 1€ per applicant to Ilmastokummit RY and with that enabling the planting of 925 trees in Finland. This was our way to support our joint future.

Finally, we are excited to be able to welcome around 170 summer trainees to Metso Outotec in Finland, to our different locations and to very various job positions, ranging from i.e. production, customer logistics or engineering positions to positions in our corporate functions such as HR, Legal or Finance.

We are proud to have the possibility to be part of so many students’ early career steps.

We are proud to have the possibility to be part of so many students’ early career steps. We acknowledge the important responsibility and task we have at hand – providing job experience in their field of study, offering learning opportunities and introducing a network of professionals. At the same time, we are as a company in many ways at the receiving end, as our summer trainees are here to ensure we can keep our business running during summer vacation time, giving our employees the chance to take a well-deserved break. Not to mention that there is much we can learn from our summer trainees, as they come in with their competences seasoned with fresh perspective, curiosity, and eagerness to learn they will challenge us in our thinking and ways of working.

As a company, we are making an effort to make sure all our summer trainees feel welcomed and find their place in their teams, receive good onboarding and training, as well as the feeling of support from their manager and team, even during these times when most of the work is carried out remotely. Now, with the summer still ahead of us, we have all possibilities to fulfill our promise. We are proud to say there are some internal career stories that started years ago from a summer trainee position, and that if something must be the best proof there is that we have been successful in this regard.
