Oil leakage from trunnion bearing seals can cause many environmental and administrative concerns. Leaks require additional housekeeping activities to limit “slip and fall” injuries to workers, and the leaks can lead to regulatory infractions that might result in citations if not addressed properly. This relatively small wear part can have a great impact on a mill’s operation, safety and financial bottom line.
The new Outotec® Barricade seal arrangement solves the myriad of issues around the proper sealing of grinding mill main bearings. The design incorporates protective properties superior to any arrangement yet brought to market. The Barricade arrangement is now standard supply for all new Outotec mill installations. Additionally, the Barricade can be retrofitted to many existing mills.
Trunnion bearing seals
The Barricade design is based on years of Outotec experience with v-ring seals arranged on either side of a seal annular plate. In this type of arrangement, the seals and seal annular plate become the wear parts, both of which are substantially easier and cheaper to replace than a mill head. The Barricade advances this older arrangement through uniform lip tension, enhanced seal stability and superior sealing performance.
Upgrading your old seals to the new Barricade design can effectively stop all oil leakage from the main bearing housings and prevent the ingress of contaminants into the lubrication system from the outside. This will create a positive benefit in the reduction or elimination of jurisdictional citations, improved safety, and better bearing lubricant quality.
