Mining and processing represent consecutive stages of size reduction of rock from in-situ preformed blocks to a size allowing for optimum recovery (mining) or maximum selling value (aggregates quarry or iron ore mines). The rock properties themselves are not under our control and can change dramatically or subtly from one mined area to another. With the ore properties also beyond our control, the only parameter that can be adjusted is the fragmentation of blasted material.
