Outotec to deliver technology and operation & maintenance services for a waste-to-energy plant in the UK

Outotec has agreed with M&W High Tech Projects UK Limited for the delivery of technology for a new waste to energy plant to be built near Lanark in Scotland for Levenseat Renewable Energy Limited. In addition, Outotec has signed a twelve-year operation and maintenance contract for the plant with the end customer. The total value of the orders is approximately EUR 60 million, of which EUR 30 million has been booked in Outotec's 2015 first quarter order intake.

Outotec's scope of delivery covers the engineering and delivery of the main process equipment for a 12.5 MWe waste-to-energy plant based on fluidized bed technology. The plant will use refused derived fuel (RDF), mainly consisting of recycled plastics and sorted waste as raw materials. Once fully operational in mid-2017, the plant is designed to export over 75 GWh of electricity and 30 GWh heat per year that is equivalent to the electricity needs of nearly 18,000 homes. The project is also expected to divert over 1.4 million tonnes of waste from landfill.

Outotec also provides comprehensive operation and maintenance services for the entire waste-to-energy plant. Approximately 20 Outotec employees will be working in operation and maintenance at the site.

"We are extremely pleased to be involved in this renewable energy project in Scotland. Our expertise in the waste-to-energy sector was strengthened through the acquisition of Energy Products of Idaho at the end of 2011. Besides sustainable technology, this order represents Outotec's life-cycle oriented approach. Through Outotec's long-term care of the plant, the customer will get the best return on their investment", says Robin Lindahl, President of Metals, Energy & Water business area at Outotec.
