Outotec provides process technology for the new copper concentrator in Mexico

Outotec and Grupo Mexico have signed a contract for the delivery of process technology to Buenavista del Cobre's new second copper concentrator in Mexico. The contract value booked in the first quarter 2012 order intake is nearly EUR 28 million.

Outotec will deliver proprietary process equipment including 54 Outotec TankCell® flotation cells in different sizes, four Outotec Larox® filters, four PSI® particle size analyzers and two COURIER® on-line analyzers as well as a sampling system. In addition, Outotec will supply supervision for the installation, commissioning and start-up services. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed in the early 2013.

The Buenavista del Cobre (formerly Cananea) concentrator was restarted in 2010 and has a processing capacity of 70,000 tonnes of ore per day. The second concentrator, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the second half of 2013, will add capacity by 100,000 tonnes per day.

"Our flotation solution is the most eco-efficient on the market. This advanced technology combined with our process control and automation expertise allow us to support Grupo Mexico in their intention to build the new concentrator under strict respect for the environment and to conduct the operations in the most sustainable manner", says Pertti Korhonen, CEO of Outotec.
