Outotec commended for climate change disclosure

OUTOTEC OYJ PRESS RELEASE, OCTOBER 29, 2009 AT 3.00 PM

Outotec commended for climate change disclosure

Outotec is featured in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in its first year of reporting. The index is a key component of CDP's annual Nordic 200 Report, launched today in Helsinki. Outotec has been commended by CDP for its approach to climate change disclosure. Outotec's score in the CDP ranking was 74/100.

The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index lists the top ten percent of companies within the Nordic 200 Index. These companies have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance in respect of climate change disclosure practices. Companies are scored based on their responses to CDP's 2009 questionnaire, which focused on greenhouse gas emissions, emissions reduction targets, risks and opportunities associated with climate change. High scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.

"I am very proud of Outotec's inclusion in Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. Sustainable technology has been Outotec's core principle throughout our existence. We develop process technologies that fulfill both economical and ecological criteria. Providing clean and energy efficient technologies to our customers is our way of mitigating the climate change. In 2008, 4.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions were avoided by using Outotec® Flash Smelting Process, Outotec® Ferrochrome Process and Outotec® Alumina Calcining Process, compared to other available methods", said Tapani Järvinen, CEO of Outotec.

Paul Dickinson, Chief Executive of the Carbon Disclosure Project, commented:
"Companies recognized in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index are rewarded for high quality responses to CDP, which demonstrate a good understanding of how climate change is and will continue to impact their business. Companies which control their risks today, manage their emissions and seize the opportunities to produce low carbon goods and services, will be the best placed to prosper in a low carbon economy of the future."
