Outokumpu Technology complements its process technology offering

OUTOKUMPU TECHNOLOGY OYJ  PRESS RELEASE  MARCH 27, 2007

Outokumpu Technology acquires Chena® (Chemistry Navigator) trademark from a Finnish company Liqum with two related patent families on electrochemical measuring and process monitoring as well as exclusive rights of this technology in mining, minerals and metals industry applications. The acquisition will further improve Outokumpu Technology's competitiveness by complementing the company's offering in minerals processing and hydrometallurgical process solutions. As part of the deal, three Liqum's employees will transfer to Outokumpu Technology.

Chena® is a patented technology for improving the efficiency of production processes. The system incorporates the professional expertise of the plant, process measurements and new information received from the process chemistry, and refines the information by data processing to an easily understandable visual format.

"The Chena® technology developed by Liqum supplements our existing technologies and knowledge. We plan to further develop the technology in cooperation with Liqum.  In addition, the Chena® technology offers us possibilities to grow as a provider of solutions for process water circulation and wastewater management in mining, minerals and metals industries", explains Jari Rosendal, President - Minerals Processing, the rationale of the deal.
