Additional contract for the KCM flash smelter project in Zambia

Outokumpu Technology has signed a contract with Konkola Copper Mines Plc. (KCM) for the supply of slag cleaning furnaces for KCM's new copper flash smelting plant to be built in Zambia. The contract value is approximately EUR 28 million. This order is continuation to the 20 million euro contract with KCM that Outokumpu Technology announced in January for the flash smelting furnace and related engineering.

Outokumpu Technology's scope of supply covers engineering of the slag cleaning and cobalt recovery processes, delivery of electric furnace equipment and related supervision services for installation and commissioning. The equipment deliveries are scheduled to be completed in August 2007.

"This KCM contract shows Outokumpu Technology's competitiveness in smelter technologies and our capabilities to design and deliver whole smelters, not only our proprietary flash smelting furnace technology but also other smelter sections. In this kind of large plant investments our customers value proven process and equipment, operational know-how as well as integration of various technologies. Reliable operation is the key to their success", explains Tapani Järvinen, President & CEO of Outokumpu Technology.
