Two new alumina calcination plants for Alunorte, Brazil

Outokumpu Technology has agreed with Alumina do Norte do Brasil S.A. (Alunorte) on the delivery of two new calcination plants for Alunorte's Third Expansion Project close to Belém in Brazil. The contract value exceeds EUR 15 million.

Outokumpu Technology is providing the core technology and some special equipment for the calciners, a fully integrated hydrate filtration plant, basic and detailed engineering, technical support and project management services as well as training and commissioning services. The delivery time of these two new calcination plants is 25 months.

Alumina is used as a raw material in aluminium production. Outokumpu Technology has also delivered all of Alunorte's existing five alumina calciners.

Alunorte's total expansion investment amounts to USD 846 million and it increases the alumina production capacity by 1.87 million tons per year. This expansion will consolidate Alunorte's position as the largest alumina refinery in the world. Outokumpu Technology's state-of-the-art calcination technology enables low production costs, as a result of which Alunorte will also become one of the most profitable producers of alumina.
