#MetsoOutotecSummer – Cristina Sánchez

I'm Cristina, originally from Spain, but currently located in Lappeenranta, Finland. I moved to Finland in 2017, to study a Master's degree in Chemical and Process Engineering in Lappeenranta University of Technology. I started at Metso Outotec about a year after moving here. I was a summer trainee from May 2018 to the end of August 2018, making quotation proposals for thickeners and clarifiers. I have so many good memories from that summer!

Metso Outotec is a very international company. I had coworkers from Lappeenranta, Espoo and Saint Petersburg and my boss was located in Perth, Australia. I remember my boss coming to Finland for a short visit a couple of weeks before my contract started. Even if I wasn’t officially a summer trainee yet, he and my soon to be coworkers from Lappeenranta invited me for a very nice lunch, so that we could get to know each other. I felt very welcomed to the team!

Another one of my best memories is when I was offered an opportunity to participate in a training for thickening testing. That week other people from the company, outside Finland, came to Lappeenranta to organize the training. I got to know people from Mexico, Canada, Australia and Russia. During that week, I learned a lot about testing. Many of the things I learnt are now useful in my current job as an R&D Project Worker.

The best thing about Metso Outotec is definitely the good work environment, the people and the freedom. Everyone’s opinions and ideas are listened to and appreciated. I don’t speak Finnish and still, I have never had a problem here. Everyone at this company speaks perfect English.

Why should you apply for a summer trainee position in Metso Outotec? Why shouldn’t you! My summer at Metso Outotec was great. I met so many exceptional people. I learnt many important things – not only about thickeners – but also about working life in Finland. Summer at Metso Outotec could also be the opening door for a future career. Just like it was for me. The following year after my first summer at the company, I was offered a master's thesis position. Since then, I've been working at Metso Outotec.
