As a global company, we operate in close to 50 countries, offering opportunities to work with colleagues globally. How to apply

Create a candidate profile ​​

1. The application process starts by filling in an application on the Metso career page. All open summer trainee positions are found here. If this is your first time applying for a job at Metso, you must create a candidate account with your personal details. After you submit your application, you will receive an email asking you to verify your email address.​

2. Once your account is created, you are ready to apply for the position of interest or submit applications for several jobs through the candidate portal. You can apply for as many positions as you wish, and we can accept applications through the recruitment system and cannot accept applications via email.  ​

3. Once we receive your application, you will receive a confirmation email from the system. ​

 

What to highlight in an application? ​​

We aim to get to know you, your experience, and why you’re applying for a specific position in the recruiting process. In your application, highlight your relevant experience and strengths. This can include previous internships, relevant coursework, skills, and personal qualities that make you a good fit for the position. Try to also explain why you’re interested in the traineeship and what you hope to gain from the experience. It is important to tailor the application to the specific position and team, and to use clear and concise language to describe your qualifications and motivations. ​​

Please attach your CV and cover letter with your application. Attaching academic transcripts is optional. Please note that the Summer Trainee monthly salary is based on the candidate's number of completed academic credits and job location. Make sure to finalize all documents before submission and upload them as PDF files to ensure consistent formatting.

 

Timeline ​​

Our summer trainee application period opens in the beginning of January and ends on February 11. We will review applications and may conduct interviews and make decisions before the application period ends. Positions will be filled as soon as we find suitable candidates. We recommend submitting your application as soon as possible. We may open additional positions later in the year, so continue to check our career page for updates. Recruitment Process

Hiring managers will review all applications and select the most qualified candidates for the next phase of the recruitment process. If you are selected, the hiring manager will contact you by phone or email to discuss the next steps. We will contact all applicants as the process progresses and will reach out to you separately for each position you have applied for.

Interviews

If selected for the interview phase, we will contact you to schedule the interview. Interviews are typically conducted in one round, either in person, by phone, or virtually. We are flexible in the interview format, so let us know your preference.  ​​

The interview is an opportunity for you to ask questions and learn more about Metso, the position, and the team you may be joining. We recommend preparing for the interview by thinking about your qualifications and experience and any questions you may have about the job or company. The hiring manager will conduct the interview.  ​​

After the interview, we will follow up with all candidates to provide updates on the recruitment process and to gather feedback. If you are not selected for the summer trainee program, we encourage you to apply again in the future. You can follow us in social media to keep in touch with us.

Start of the Traineeship

  1. After the interview process is concluded you will receive a job contract to sign and agree on a suitable start date with your supervisor, and most of the start dates are during May, 2024.
  2. Before your first day, you’ll receive an information package about the traineeship and your first week at Metso via email. ​
  3. During the first week at Metso, you’ll begin the onboarding with your team, buddy, and the HR team. ​
  4. You’ll get to participate in different summer trainee activities and events and network with fellow trainees and people at Metso throughout the summer. We’re looking forward to meeting you in summer 2024!

Yes, we offer opportunities for first-year students. While the nature of our summer trainee positions may require a certain level of experience and academic progression, we also offer more hands-on and administrative roles that may align with the skills and interests of first-year students. We recognize the importance of providing opportunities for students at all levels and encourage you to apply even though you only check some of the requirements in the job ad.

No, most of our summer jobs do not require knowledge of Finnish. However, due to the nature of the work and safety, some positions might require knowledge of the Finnish language. The language requirements are clearly stated in all of our job ads.

Yes, all of our Summer Trainee positions are paid and the salary range is between 2000-2770 euros per month. The monthly salary is based on completed academic credits and the location of the position. In production worker positions, the salary is determined based on the position and candidate's educational background and previous work experience.

The summer job period is between May and August, and the timing is flexible depending on the needs of the summer trainee and the team. Most of our summer trainees start in May.

Most of our summer trainees work full-time (37.5 or 40 hours per week), depending on the role. Flexible working hours are also possible depending on the nature of the work and team practices.

We offer flexible working opportunities. However, the team's ways of working are discussed with your manager and team.

Although we cannot promise opportunities after the summer, many of our summer trainees continue at Metso after the summer, and over 60% of our summer trainees continue, for example, as thesis workers, part-time trainees during their studies, or full-time employees.

After you have sent your application, you will receive a separate confirmation email. We review all applications at the latest after the application period ends, and we can invite applicants to an interview already during the application period. We receive a high number of applications annually, and it can take a while to go through all the applications carefully. The hiring manager invites the most suitable applicants for a job interview based on the applications. The interviews are usually held in Teams or in-person, and we offer flexibility regarding suitable interview models. We aim to complete the final selections as soon as possible after the interviews. After the selection, the selected candidate will receive the job offer and agree on practical matters with their hiring manager. Summer job contracts are signed in March, and the summer job usually starts in May.
