Edmeston SX®

Sulphuric acid resistant materials, plants, equipment and parts

Edmeston SX®, the original sulphuric acid steel, was developed by Sandvik (Sandvik SX) and launched by its subsidiary Edmeston in 1984. The material led to a paradigm change in the industry with its combination of corrosion resistance, excellent mechanical properties and weldability, low maintenance requirements, and increased safety. Present-day Metso Outotec acquired Edmeston in 2010.
Edmeston SX® acid-resistant steel is the benchmark alloy in sulfuric acid plants.
Stainless steel resistant for sulfuric acid

Edmeston SX® acid-resistant steel is the benchmark alloy in sulfuric acid plants. The austenitic stainless steel with high silicon content has excellent corrosion resistance over a wide concentration range at high temperatures, in both static and dynamic conditions.

The material has been utilized for decades in a variety of sulfuric acid applications, such as acid piping and fittings, acid coolers, acid absorption towers and pump tanks, acid pipe and trough distributors – as well as valves used in sulfuric acid plants.
